Comneon to Integrate Kineto’s UMA Client with Mobile Platform to Meet Growing Demand for
UMA-Enabled Devices
Kineto Wireless, Inc., the key innovator and leading supplier of Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) technology, and Comneon GmbH & Co OHG, a leading supplier of mobile software and wholly owned subsidiary of Infineon Technologies AG (FSE/NYSE: IFX), today announced that Comneon has selected Kineto’s UMA client technology for integration into its mobile software platform consisting of Comneon’s leading GSM/GPRS/EDGE/UMTS protocol stack and APOXITM Application Framework.
Handset developers can use the resulting solution to rapidly introduce new UMA-enabled mobile handsets to market. The UMA-enabled Comneon Protocol Stack Solution is being demonstrated in the Infineon Technologies booth (Hall 1, Booth C08 and C09) at 3GSM in Barcelona, Spain this week. The demonstration is based on the Wi-Fi-enabled Mobile Phone Platform MP-EU, featuring Infineon’s wireless LAN (WLAN) and EDGE chipset.
“We are pleased to be working with Kineto Wireless,” said Thomas Lindner, Senior Director of Marketing for Comneon. “Our goal is to offer the best convergence-enhanced software platforms on the market. Using Kineto’s highly portable, robust, and proven GAN (Generic Access Network)/UMA client, integrated with our protocol stack and the APOXITM Application Framework, our handset customers can get to market quickly with UMA-enabled devices.”
“Kineto is delighted to be working with Comneon to deliver a UMA-enabled handset platform,” said Mark Powell, Vice President of Kineto’s Client Business Unit and co-founder of the company. “The market for mobile/Wi-Fi devices is expanding rapidly. This collaboration enables Comneon’s customers to quickly bring to market leading UMA products.”
Kineto is the leading provider of UMA client software globally. Having been in operator trials for more than two years, Kineto’s client software has proven interoperable with every UMA Network Controller (UNC) on the market. Architected for maximum flexibility, the Kineto Client is highly-portable and supports both single and dual processor platform designs. It is also fully compliant with UMA and GAN specifications. Paired with advanced integration, simulation, and validation tools, Kineto’s Developer Program dramatically lowers the time to market for platform and device developers.
About UMA Technology
Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) technology is the 3GPP standard for mobile/Wi-Fi convergence. UMA Technology enables access to mobile voice, data and IMS services over IP broadband access and unlicensed spectrum technologies, such as Wi-Fi. By deploying UMA technology, service providers can enable subscribers to roam and handover between cellular networks and public and private WLANs using dual-mode mobile handsets. With UMA, subscribers receive a consistent user experience for their mobile voice, data and IMS services as they transition between networks. The specifications are available for download at the UMA Technology web site (www.umatechnology.org) as well as the 3GPP web site (www.3gpp.org).
