Demand for UMA-enabled mobile devices drives companies to utilize Kineto client software on TI’s
WiLink and OMAP-Vox™ platforms
Kineto Wireless, Inc., the key innovator and leading supplier of Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) technology, today announced that Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) is enabling Kineto’s UMA client software for handsets based on TI’s leading cellular and mobile Wi-Fi platforms. Companies building devices based on TI’s WiLinkTM mobile WLAN platform and OMAP-VoxTM solutions can now quickly develop UMA-enabled products to meet increasing demand for mobile/Wi-Fi devices based on the 3GPP standard.
“We are pleased to work with Kineto Wireless to enable UMA technology for mobile/Wi-Fi handsets,” said Avner Goren, worldwide director of marketing, Cellular Systems Solutions, TI’s Wireless Terminals Business Unit. “Through this relationship, we can enable faster time to market for UMA devices and help device manufacturers meet the tremendous demand for convergence solutions.”
Built on TI’s leading OMAPTM processor architecture, the OMAPV1030 EDGE solution delivers advanced capabilities to address demand for multimedia applications in the growing mid-range wireless market. Combined with TI’s low-power WiLink 4.0 and WiLink 5.0 mobile WLAN platforms, the UMA-enabled OMAPV1030 solution will drive Voice over WLAN (VoWLAN) convergence into mid-tier mass market handsets.
“Kineto is delighted to be working with Texas Instruments to deliver a UMA-enabled handset platform,” said Mark Powell, vice president of Kineto’s Client Business Unit and co-founder of the company. “Texas Instruments’ comprehensive wireless platform is ideal for meeting the demands of mobile/Wi-Fi enabled devices.”
Kineto is the leading provider of UMA client software globally. Having been in operator trials for more than two years, Kineto’s client software has proven interoperable with every UMA Network Controller (UNC) on the market. Architected for maximum flexibility, the Kineto Client is highly-portable and supports both single and dual processor platform designs. It is also fully compliant with UMA and GAN specifications. Paired with advanced integration, simulation, and validation tools, Kineto’s Developer Program dramatically lowers the time to market for platform and device developers.
About UMA Technology
Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) technology is the 3GPP standard for mobile/Wi-Fi convergence. UMA Technology enables access to mobile voice, data and IMS services over IP broadband access and unlicensed spectrum technologies, such as Wi-Fi. By deploying UMA technology, service providers can enable subscribers to roam and handover between cellular networks and public and private WLANs using dual-mode mobile handsets. With UMA, subscribers receive a consistent user experience for their mobile voice, data and IMS services as they transition between networks. The specifications are available for download at the UMA Technology web site (www.umatechnology.org) as well as the 3GPP web site (www.3gpp.org).
