Westell Licenses Kineto Client Software for UMA/GAN-Based Terminal Adaptor
Milpitas, Calif. November 17, 2008
Kineto Wireless, Inc. , the key innovator and leading supplier of fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) solutions for mobile operators, today announced Westell Technologies, Inc. , a leader in broadband access products, has licensed its industry-leading UMA/GAN client software for integration into UMA-based terminal adaptors and routers.
"Westell turned to industry-leader Kineto Wireless to meet growing operator demand for UMA/GAN-based terminal adaptors and integrated routers," said Chris Shaver, CTO of Westell Technologies. "Kineto's UMA/GAN client software has been proven in commercial deployments worldwide and allows Westell a low-risk and rapid time to market. "
Now, mobile operators can use UMA/GAN technology to leverage their existing mobile core network and their subscribers' existing home broadband network connection to deliver a cost-effective, fixed-line home phone service. Adding a fixed-line home phone service to a standard mobile service plan increases ARPU and accelerates fixed-to-mobile substitution (FMS).
"While some consumers are ditching their landlines, many are choosing to maintain a fixed-line telephone service for economic reasons and convenience," said Rick Gilbert, president and CEO of Kineto Wireless. "With UMA-based terminal adaptors, a growing number of mobile operators are now addressing this opportunity, and finding it a low-risk, high-revenue complement to their mobile service. "
